A long-term housing solution for society’s most vulnerable.
Let’s break the pattern of homelessness, hospital stays and incarceration.
Sydney has as many as 1,000 people with chronic mentally illness sleeping in the open every night. The Habilis supported housing model has been set up to change this.
Habilis is a registered charity dedicated to providing long-term, stable and low-cost housing for people living with chronic mental illness, mainly schizophrenia.
Our first centre at Summer Hill provides a safe and supportive environment designed to break the cycle of homelessness, hospital re-admission and incarceration.
A home for life, not shelter for the short-term.
The Habilis model is purpose-built small-scale clusters of self-contained units, together with the clinical care and social support needed for residents to remain well and maintain tenancy.
Support services are funded by rent taken from the Disability Support Pension, NDIS packages obtained for the residents, and contributions in kind by family members and volunteers. Visiting psychiatrists and mental health nurse practitioners are fully funded by Medicare.
