Resident Stories - Kellie
From rock-bottom with no way up to positively thriving in two short years, Kellie’s a wonderful Habilis success story.
Now aged 53, she was the only survivor of triplets and lived with her parents until her first acute episode of mental illness at the age of 51, and had her first ever contact with the police after she assaulted her elderly father in response to symptoms, and was taken into custody.
Without being able to return home, or another address for bail, she spent three months in remand where her mental illness was eventually identified and treated. She was granted bail after she was offered a self contained unit and other supports at Habilis.
With her court case now resolved and behind her, she is very contented living independently in her own place. With the right medication and the ongoing support Habilis provides, she has quickly become a popular and self-sufficient member of our community.
