We now have 16 tenants - with 4 remaining places reserved for vulnerable women
We now have a settled cohort of 16 tenants at Summer Hill, with the remaining 4 units reserved for vulnerable mentally ill women who have not done well in public housing estates and need to be housed in a more protective environment with ready access to medical care.
As a result, the centre is starting to have a real sense of community, and residents are certainly keeping our manager Linda busy, helping to solve the day to day problems that arise. Linda’s mother Gill and friend Trish have put on regular lunches, and we have several volunteers helping with outings and other needs. Our NDIS partner, the award winning Kezia Kingston and her team at Staying Independent have mapped out a program of activities, and one resident has now returned to part time employment after a long break. We feel we are making a real difference to the lives of our residents, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
